Sean Addo

writer/director Rooted
Sean A. Addo is a Ghanaian-American filmmaker from The Buckeye State of Ohio. He attended
the University of Cincinnati, juggling his passion for motion graphics while playing college
football. Shifting between art and sports has always been part of Sean's life. Still, when these
groups evolved into social and sometimes cultural categories, he began paying closer attention to
his own identity. Sean eventually gained an MFA in Production from the University of Southern
California School of Cinematic Arts. His award-winning thesis, DEEPER THAN BLACK,
would be a personal journey into identity as a third cultured Ghanaian-American kid.
After completing his education, Sean worked professionally as the Director of Photography on
the feature film INQUISITOR. But on the set of FX's Snowfall, is where he would reignite his
passion for directing while under the guidance of the late John Singleton. Shortly after, Sean,
alongside co-creator Harry Locke IV, created IV Sight Pictures, where he would write and direct
short-formed projects for future feature development.

“As my forefathers did before, I tell bold and distinct genre stores about identity that draw

power from cultural heritage.”

Sean's work promises far-reaching content, connecting both global and domestic audiences. His
original screenplays KINGS, The BEAUTIFUL ONE, ROCKABYE, and THE HOMESICK, aim to use
identity, diversity, and social awareness to help bridge cultural gaps through edgy and often
original supernatural stories. Recently, Mr. Addo's film, "ROOTED," premiered at Palm Spring
International ShortFest and will continue to play in festivals worldwide.
Other notable awards follow Sean's supernatural horror feature, THE HOMESICK, which was
part of The Blackhouse 2020 Producers Lab and Sundance Inaugural Producers Program. As a
fellow of Facebook Seen's New Black Filmmakers and Panavision New Filmmakers Program,
Sean has established himself as a uniquely talented writer-director and definitely an exciting
one to watch.
